Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr. (born October 17, 1987) is a Ghanaian reggae and dancehall performer. He goes by the stage name Shatta Wale, formerly Bandana.

Shatta Wale changed his name to “Bandana” after senior high school and launched the smash single “Bandana from Ghana.” In 2004, the song was a huge hit in Ghana’s music business.

Shatta Wale’s unexpected rise to the occasion occurred at the 2013 VGMA awards, when he shouted lyrical obscenities at the VGMA, now Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), since he claimed they stole him of the Dancehall musician of the Year prize, which went to a female Dancehall musician, Kaakie.

Even though the song had obscene lyrics, it was much anticipated by the media, resulting in his musical breakthrough.

Dancehall King surprised the airwaves with his biggest popular single in 2013. Shatta Wale’s musical business is primarily produced by presenting events that draw thousands of Ghanaian youngsters.

In 2015, Shatta Wale asked not to be nominated in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, even though he could have won the prestigious Artiste & Song of the year for the second time running with his hit songs Dancehall Commando featuring Sarkodie, Party all night long featuring Jah Vinci, Wine Ya Waist featuring Davido and Korle Gonno, among many hit songs he released the preceding year: because of an impending court case with the Awards organisers Charter House Production.

His best-known tracks include “Dancehall King,” “My Level,” and “Taking Over.” He is also renowned for the song “Already” from Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift, which features Major Lazer.

His single “Dancehall King” won him Artiste of the Year at the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Wale is also an actor, having acted in the films Never Say Never.

In 2014, he reached number 38 on E.tv’s “Top 100 Most Influential Ghanaian” Awards list.

Since then, he has appeared on the chart annually. He was named the “Most Influential Musician” on social media in 2017.
