“I Congratulated You, But You Chose to Mock Me” — Stonebwoy to Sarkodie

Ghana’s music industry has been thrown into another heated conversation after dancehall heavyweight Stonebwoy addressed rapper Sarkodie in a lengthy social media statement concerning what appears to be a disagreement over industry principles, public comments, and the interpretation of two videos.

Stonebwoy’s message comes after what he described as a series of conversations between the two artistes, including a phone call lasting more than an hour.

The tension appears to have intensified following Stonebwoy’s appearance at the OVO Arena, after Sarkodie subsequently shared what Stonebwoy referred to as a “second video” on social media.

“I Congratulated You…”

In his message directed at Sarkodie, Stonebwoy explained that he had personally reached out to congratulate the rapper following his RAH show in the United Kingdom.

According to Stonebwoy, he called Sarkodie the following day and the two spoke for more than 10 minutes.

Stonebwoy wrote:

“After your RAH show in the UK, I called you the next day to congratulate you and we spoke for 10 minutes+.”

He then referenced his own OVO performance and Sarkodie’s subsequent social media post, saying the meaning behind the video was something only Sarkodie could fully explain.

“After my OVO — you posted the second video on social media… Whatever message you meant to send across, only you can explain.”

The Phone Conversation

Stonebwoy further revealed that after posting what he described as a factual tweet, he still reached out to Sarkodie because the rapper had been posting what Stonebwoy considered cryptic messages.

According to Stonebwoy, Sarkodie immediately returned his call. Although Stonebwoy initially missed the call, he said he called back afterward and the two had a conversation lasting more than an hour.

The discussion, he said, touched on the music industry, artiste behaviour, principles, and different perspectives.

Stonebwoy claimed that during the conversation, Sarkodie made his position clear that artistes cannot be “forced” to uphold a particular principle.

“Without Principle, Advice Is an Opinion”

The most striking part of Stonebwoy’s statement was his argument about the role of principles in the entertainment industry.

According to him, Sarkodie’s position was that artistes should be free to operate in ways that benefit them, even when their approaches or priorities differ.

Stonebwoy appeared to disagree strongly with that philosophy.

He wrote:

“And you will agree that without PRINCIPLE, advice is an OPINION.”

That statement has since become a major talking point among fans, particularly because both artistes have previously spoken about the growth, unity, and direction of Ghana’s music industry.

A Disagreement Over Two Videos

Stonebwoy also made it clear that, for the moment, he was basing his position primarily on two videos, one of which he credited to @kwesiriley_.

He suggested that Sarkodie’s social media post should also be viewed within the context of their previous conversation.

“Standing on just these 2 videos for now, I believe this tweet of yours has been equally considered.”

The wording has left fans questioning exactly what was communicated through the videos and whether Sarkodie’s posts were intended as a direct response to Stonebwoy.

More Than Just Personal Differences?

At the heart of the disagreement appears to be a broader discussion about principles and behaviour within Ghana’s music industry.

Stonebwoy’s comments suggest that he believes artistes should stand for certain principles rather than simply taking positions based on personal or commercial benefit.

Sarkodie, according to Stonebwoy’s account of their private conversation, appears to have expressed a different perspective — that artistes have different priorities and should not necessarily be compelled to follow a particular set of principles.

That difference in philosophy may explain why what could have been a simple misunderstanding has attracted considerable public attention.

Fans Await Sarkodie’s Response

With Stonebwoy now publicly explaining his side of the story, attention is likely to turn toward Sarkodie.

Fans will be watching to see whether the rapper responds directly to Stonebwoy’s allegations and clarification, or whether the matter will remain a private disagreement between two of Ghana’s most influential artistes.

For now, Stonebwoy’s message has raised one central question:

When two artistes disagree on principles, where does healthy competition end and personal disrespect begin?

Whatever the answer, the exchange has once again placed the relationship between two of Ghana’s biggest music stars under the spotlight.

Stonebwoy vs Sarkodie — is this simply a difference in perspective, or is there more to the story?
