Pastor Blinks – Puma
Pastor Blinks has released a new song titled Puma, and it is a long way from the pulpit character many Ghanaians know him for. Pastor Blinks Puma is an Afro-fusion love song, and the full track is now available to stream and download on Ghana Songs.
The man behind the name is Nana Mensah, a Ghanaian actor who became famous for playing Pastor Blinks in a series of comic church films and skits. In those videos he plays a self-styled prophet whose strange methods left viewers laughing and arguing in equal measure. In a 2020 interview reported by GhanaWeb, he explained that the character was created to expose fake pastors, not to mock Christianity or genuine men of God.
Because the name and the church outfits look so convincing, many people still believe Pastor Blinks is a real pastor. He is an entertainer. In 2023 he told Okay FM that he was moving into music and that a new single was ready. Puma is part of that new journey.
What Puma is about
Puma is a love song about two people who cannot keep away from each other. It is a bedroom song, the kind of record couples play when the lights go low, and Pastor Blinks goes fully into the romantic theme. Coming from an artiste whose stage name sounds like a church title, the choice of subject is bold, and it is sure to get people talking.
The song runs for 3 minutes 21 seconds. It is released as an Afro-fusion record, the style that blends Afrobeats with other sounds and has become one of the most popular lanes for young Ghanaian artistes.
From skits to the studio
Pastor Blinks is not the first Ghanaian comic actor to try music, but his case is unusual because his character is so closely tied to the church. Fans who follow his skits on YouTube, Facebook and TikTok know him as the prophet with unusual consultations. Hearing the same name on a love song will surprise some of them, and that surprise is part of what makes Puma interesting.
Music also gives the brand a longer life. A skit trends for a few days and moves on. A song that people enjoy can stay on their phones for months, and a love song like Puma is the kind of record people return to.
