Joey B Drops Freestyle on Chinatown Sound Series

Joey B has added his name to the list of rappers who have stepped in front of the Chinatown Sound camera. The street freestyle platform shared a clip of the Ghanaian rapper on Instagram on Tuesday, 20 October, in a joint post with Joey B’s own account.

The caption picked out one line from his verse: “Captain of my ship, don’t you ask me who is sailing it.” It also pointed fans to the full freestyles on the Chinatown Sound YouTube channel. By Wednesday, the clip had passed 15,000 likes and more than 600 comments on Instagram.

What is Chinatown Sound?

Chinatown Sound, often shortened to CTS, is a freestyle video series started by videographer Gee Media and rapper Bub Styles in New York’s Chinatown. According to hip-hop site Cabbages, the idea is simple: short freestyles with no beat, recorded on the spot at night on the streets, with the clips posted on Instagram and hosted on YouTube.

The series has grown quickly and has hosted some big names. Wu-Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck, for example, recorded a Chinatown Sound freestyle in August 2026. Joey B’s appearance puts a Ghanaian rapper on that list, in a format where there is no beat or hook to hide behind.

Joey B’s 2026 so far

The freestyle follows a run of visuals from the “Tonga” hitmaker earlier in the year. In May he released the video for “News at 7”, and soon after came “Exopa”, his collaboration with Nigerian artist Odunsi (The Engine). Both videos were directed by Jeremy Joseph, according to Joey B’s posts.

His catalogue on ghanasong.org also includes “Roses” and “Kyeiwaa” featuring Bisa Kdei.

Joey B has not said whether the freestyle is tied to a new single or project, so for now it stands as a reminder to fans of what he can do without a beat. Keep following ghanasong.org for more on Joey B and the latest Ghana music news.
