Sarkodie Responds to Stonebwoy’s Accusation
Ghanaian rap heavyweight Sarkodie has responded to Stonebwoy after the dancehall star accused him of mocking him following his recent performance at the OVO Arena.
The exchange has sparked fresh debate among Ghanaian music fans, with both artistes now publicly offering their perspectives on what appears to be a misunderstanding involving social media posts, personal expectations and their differing approaches to industry relationships.
Stonebwoy had earlier addressed Sarkodie in a lengthy statement, explaining that he had congratulated the rapper after his RAH show in the UK and later had an extended conversation with him about the music industry, artiste behaviour and principles.
Sarkodie has now pushed back against some of Stonebwoy’s interpretation of that conversation.
“There’s No Need to Say Something I Never Said”
One of Sarkodie’s first points was to reject what he described as a misrepresentation of his position during their phone conversation.
He clarified that he never said artistes should simply “play along” with situations as long as it benefits them.
“A lot to unpack here, but first things first there’s no need to say something I never said that artistes should play along so far as it benefits them.”
According to Sarkodie, that was not the position he communicated during their conversation.
“What Is Your Problem?”
Sarkodie also revisited the question he said he asked Stonebwoy at the beginning of their phone conversation.
“The first thing I asked you when we got on that call, and I still want to ask, is ‘What is your problem?’”
He suggested that if Stonebwoy personally connected Sarkodie’s social media post to himself, that interpretation raised questions about how Stonebwoy viewed the situation.
“If, for any reason, you connected that post to yourself, that should tell me how you feel about everything else.”
Sarkodie Denies Shading Stonebwoy
The rapper was particularly direct in denying that he has deliberately used his social media platforms to take indirect shots at Stonebwoy.
“First off, there’s no post I’ve made in my life trying to shade you.”
Sarkodie explained that he generally does not engage when fans attempt to connect his posts to particular people because he is more concerned about the opinions of the people directly involved than outside interpretations.
He said he was only addressing the matter publicly because the accusation had come directly from Stonebwoy.
“I Only Care About Your Opinion”
Sarkodie further explained that people can sometimes interpret social media posts through their own experiences and assumptions.
He argued that individuals may react to situations that were never directed at them simply because they believe they would have acted differently in a similar situation.
For Sarkodie, however, the situation became worth addressing because it was Stonebwoy himself who raised the issue.
“There’s Nothing in This Industry I Take to Heart”
Sarkodie also emphasized that he does not allow most happenings in the music industry to affect him deeply.
Addressing Stonebwoy personally, he said:
“My G, let me say it again, just as I said on the phone there’s nothing in this industry I take to heart when I have real situations in real life to worry about.”
His comments suggest that he prefers to separate professional disagreements from personal life and does not want industry issues to become major personal burdens.
On Forgiveness and Moving On
Sarkodie also addressed Stonebwoy’s position on people who may have disrespected him.
He said he had previously told Stonebwoy that he had every right to decide whether he wanted to forgive or forget people who had wronged him.
However, Sarkodie stressed that Stonebwoy could not dictate how other people chose to deal with their own relationships and situations.
“You also can’t control how someone else chooses to deal with situations.”
“The Only Common Goal We Probably Have Is to Win Together”
Despite the tension, Sarkodie appeared to leave the door open for cooperation between the two artistes.
He explained that their shared objective could simply be to succeed together when possible — but if they could not, that was also acceptable.
“The only common goal we probably have is to win together if we can. And if we can’t, that’s good too.”
The statement appears to suggest that Sarkodie does not believe the two artistes need to agree on everything or maintain identical relationships with everyone in the industry.
Sarkodie Points to Their History
Sarkodie then challenged the idea that he had any reason to intentionally undermine Stonebwoy.
He pointed out that if he genuinely had an issue with Stonebwoy, he would not have been the person to call him, invite him to his RAH show or continue supporting his achievements.
“If I had any issues with you, I wouldn’t have been the one to pick up the phone, call you, and invite you to my RAH show.”
He also referenced Stonebwoy’s relationships with people who, according to Sarkodie, have previously disrespected him.
Sarkodie said he would not automatically interpret Stonebwoy associating with those individuals as support for their alleged disrespect toward him.
“You Seem to Feel I Owe You Something That Simply Doesn’t Exist”
One of Sarkodie’s strongest points was his rejection of what he described as an expectation that he owes Stonebwoy a particular type of loyalty.
“Yet you seem to feel I owe you something that simply doesn’t exist.”
He argued that this was not the first time Stonebwoy had expressed similar feelings.
According to Sarkodie, whenever such situations arise, he has made an effort to speak directly with Stonebwoy and resolve them privately.
He said he had repeatedly taken the initiative to have conversations before the public became aware that anything had happened.
“I Still Reached Out”
Despite the disagreement, Sarkodie highlighted his continued efforts to maintain a professional relationship with Stonebwoy.
He said he had still reached out about the possibility of the two artistes performing together and had publicly celebrated Stonebwoy’s achievements.
“And despite all of that, I still reached out about us doing shows together and bigged you up with every milestone you’ve achieved.”
For Sarkodie, these actions contradict the suggestion that he has been intentionally trying to mock or undermine Stonebwoy.
“There’s Really No Need to Twist My Words”
Sarkodie concluded by urging Stonebwoy not to reinterpret his statements in a way that changes their intended meaning.
“So there’s really no need to twist my words or make them mean something they don’t.”
He ended on a notably blunt note, telling Stonebwoy that he does not need to associate with him if he does not want to.
“And my G you don’t need to fck with me I’m pretty sure I add no value to your life to even worry about me.”
What Happens Next?
Sarkodie’s response has now provided his side of the story and significantly changed the tone of the controversy.
While Stonebwoy questioned the intention behind Sarkodie’s social media post and raised concerns about principles, Sarkodie has denied deliberately shading him and questioned why Stonebwoy connected the post to himself.
At this point, the disagreement appears to be less about a single social media post and more about expectations, interpretation, personal boundaries and how two major artistes view their relationship within Ghana’s music industry.
Whether the two eventually put the matter behind them or continue addressing it publicly remains to be seen.
