Akwaboah – Spirit (Introduction to His Fifth Project)
The introduction to Akwaboah Spirit, the fifth musical project from the Ghanaian highlife artist, is now on his official YouTube channel. The promotional video went up on 4 November 2026 and gives fans their first look at SPIRIT.
On YouTube the video is called Spirit [Introduction], and it works as the opening chapter of the wider project. Akwaboah invites viewers to take a glimpse into what he calls the soul behind the music.
He is clear that SPIRIT is more than an album. He describes it as a deeply personal record about heritage, identity, reflection and faith, and the introduction sets that tone from the first moment.
At the centre of SPIRIT is a tribute to his father and his grandfather. Both men helped pioneer authentic Ghanaian highlife, and Akwaboah treats their legacy as the foundation on which his own musical journey continues. For anyone who follows highlife, that family line carries real weight.
The project also looks inward. Akwaboah presents SPIRIT as the story of an artist standing at a crossroads, asking hard questions about purpose, direction and destiny. He looks to a higher authority for guidance and describes the record as a conversation with God.
That makes SPIRIT an openly vulnerable body of work. It is a search for clarity, both as a man and as an artist, and it grows out of a deeply personal spiritual awakening. In his own words, it is Akwaboah at his most honest and introspective.
The music is rooted in authentic highlife and afro-fusion. Highlife has always leaned on warm guitar lines and melody that sit easily with a story, and afro-fusion gives the sound room to reach listeners who grew up on newer styles. That blend has been Akwaboah’s lane for some time, and here it serves a more reflective purpose.
My own reaction is that the framing matters as much as the sound. Plenty of artists announce a new project with a single and a date. Akwaboah has chosen to open with his reasons, and that gives the album a clear emotional centre before anyone hears a full track.
The Akwaboah Spirit introduction arrives at the end of a busy year for him. On 16 October he shared Odo Ankasa, a song featuring Kwesi Arthur. Our Akwaboah and Kwesi Arthur Odo Ankasa post has more on that release. A week earlier, on 9 October, he put out the official music video for Pressure.
Before that, he teamed up with Zac Celinder on Helping Hand, released on 30 August. Work Before You Marry followed on 31 July. Same Same, a World Cup 2026 themed song, came out on 20 March.
One week before Same Same, on 13 March, he shared Akwaboah (Lighthouse Intro) with Nana Asaase. The release carries his own name in its title and sits among the earliest of this run of uploads.
Taken together, those songs cover a lot of ground. There is a collaboration with one of Ghana’s best-known rappers, a World Cup song for the football season, a track about relationships and a music video built around pressure. SPIRIT now looks set to gather those sides into one project and tie them to his family history and his faith.
The timing also suits the genre. Highlife keeps finding new listeners among younger Ghanaians, many of whom also follow Afrobeats and hip-hop. An artist who honours the pioneers of the sound while speaking about modern questions gives that audience a way into the roots of Ghanaian popular music.

The introduction video is on Akwaboah’s official YouTube channel, where fans can watch it for free. It is the place to start before the full project arrives, and the same channel carries his recent uploads, including Pressure, Odo Ankasa and Helping Hand.
Fans looking for the Akwaboah Spirit audio or the full album should follow his official channel and streaming platforms for updates. Streaming through those routes supports the artist and the family legacy the project honours.
The introduction centres on heritage, faith and identity. If that carries through the whole album, SPIRIT could become one of the more personal highlife releases of the season.
