Diana Hamilton Mourns Javits Frimpong: ‘You Did Not Deserve This’

Gospel musician Diana Hamilton has joined the many Ghanaians mourning Javits Frimpong, the 15-year-old Ghanaian student who was shot dead in the Bronx, New York, last week.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, 1 November, the Adom hitmaker said the boy’s death “hits so close to home” and that she was still struggling to come to terms with it.

What Diana Hamilton said about Javits Frimpong

“My heart is heavy,” Diana wrote, adding that her thoughts and prayers were with the Frimpong family during what she described as an incredibly painful time.

She prayed for God to be the family’s strength, comfort and peace in the days ahead, and ended the post with a short farewell to the teenager: “Rest in peace, Jarvits. You did not deserve this.” (She spelt his name “Jarvits” in the post.)

Her tribute comes a day after Sarkodie mourned Javits Frimpong and spoke about the safety of Ghanaians abroad. On Friday, gospel act M.O.G. Music also shared a post reading “Rest well hero”, asking people to support the family and praying for the parents. Many fans in his comments section left messages calling for justice for Javits.

What we know about the case

Javits, a Ghanaian student who moved to the United States about a year ago, was shot on the morning of Thursday, 29 October, while walking to school in the Bronx. He later died in hospital. CBS New York reported that police were looking for teenage suspects.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said on X that he had spoken with the boy’s father and passed on the condolences of the Government and people of Ghana. New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani later said the boy’s mother would be granted a visa so she could travel to say goodbye to her son.

Diana Hamilton currently ministering in the US

The tribute comes while Diana Hamilton is herself in the United States. Later that day, she shared another update telling fans in North Carolina that she had arrived to minister there, and earlier in the week she told fans in Arizona she would worship with them on 7 November.

Diana recently released the testimony song ‘W’ate M’anim (You Have Honoured Me)’. More of her music features in our list of the best Ghana gospel songs.
