Ofori Amponsah – Emmanuella (Official Video)

Ofori Amponsah Emmanuella is one of the love songs that made the Agogo-born singer a household name in Ghana. Close to twenty years after it came out, people still search for the song by name, and it remains a request at weddings, parties and on highlife radio shows.

Emmanuella is the title track of Ofori Amponsah’s 2007 album Emmanuella, released under 4 Reez Westside Entertainment. The album came two years after Otoolege, the record that turned him into the biggest highlife act in the country at the time.

Why fans still play Emmanuella

Emmanuella follows the pattern that served Ofori Amponsah well in the 2000s: a sweet highlife groove, a simple chorus and a man singing openly about the woman he loves. Songs named after a lady have a special place in Ghanaian highlife, and many listeners first met the name Emmanuella through this record.

Ofori Amponsah came into the industry after working with Daddy Lumba on the Woho Kyere album in 1999. He then built his own catalogue with albums such as Asew (2001), Meprawo (2002), Rakia (2004) and Otoolege (2005). At the 2006 Ghana Music Awards he took home seven awards, including Artiste of the Year.
