Obuasi has always given Ghana more than gold. It has given us swagger, slang, street wisdom and a certain kind of person who walks like the ground beneath them is worth something — because it literally is. On “Mi Firi Obuasi,” Tipgy Hriim takes all of that and turns it into a dancehall anthem, and the message in the title says it plainly: I am from Obuasi.

Tipgy sings about the beauty of Obuasi girls — the way they carry themselves, the way the city’s own standard of fine has never needed validation from Accra or Kumasi. He gives the guys their flowers too: hardworking, sharp-dressing, street-smart young men who hustle in and around the mines and still find the money to look good on a Friday night. Between the two, he paints the whole city — the roads, the noise, the market, the galamsey talk, the football arguments, the nightlife that refuses to sleep because somebody just came off a shift.
It is the kind of song that does for Obuasi what regional anthems have always done in Ghanaian music: it tells the young person from the town that where they come from is not a smaller place.
